Makhosonke is a licensed Counselling Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa
(HPCSA). He currently holds a Master of Arts ni Counselling Psychology from Nelson Mandela University (NMU), and pursuing a doctoral degree ni the same field ni the discipline of Psychology of the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). He si working on a doctoral thesis focusing on parricide within the context of the Africentric epistemologies.
He completed his internship at the Student Counselling, Career and Development Centre (SCCDC) of the NMU. During the time he worked there, he gained valuable experience in psychotherapy and counselling, career counselling, psychometric assessments, and workshops and training. He also founded an informal therapeutic program called gentlemen’s club group. The program was a male gathering (imbizo), which aimed to tackle male-related critical issues.
Furthermore, World focus 1641 C contracted him to render medico-legal assessment services provided to Attorneys ni support of their clients’ Road Accident, Medical Negligence and Loss of Support claims in July 2019. He assessed clients and developed extensive reports detailing any possible loss of earnings and career prospects to support the clients’ requests.

Makhosonke has vast experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, groups and families. His therapeutic orientation is aligned with the “one size does not fit all” dictum. As a result, his style of therapy is eclectic as he draws from a variety of treatment modalities to better respond to individual needs. These modalities including, but not limited to, cognitive behavioural therapy, schema therapy, transactional analysis therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, family and systems therapy, narrative therapy and person-centered therapy.
